Structure of the Master’s Level
The objective of the Master’s Level is to provide advanced academic training in selected subject areas. This involves both theoretical and practical training in each of the core programmes. Through research experiences, you will confront complex academic and practical problems, working independently to develop a clearly defined academic profile.
Close mentoring
Close mentoring in small groups offer an opportunity for personal cooperation with faculty, which ultimately manifests itself in the quality of our Master’s programmes.
Our Master’s programmes are one-and-a-half-year programmes (90 ECTS), with the exception of the Master’s Programme in Computer Science, which is a two-year programme (120 ECTS).
Six programmes (Banking and Finance; Strategy and International Management; Quantitative Economics and Finance; International Affairs and Governance; International Law; Computer Science) are taught exclusively in English. The Master's programmes in Accounting and Corporate Finance, Marketing Management as well as Economics are offered bilingually (German, English), the Master's programmes in Business Innovation and General Management are partially offered bilingually (German, English). The other programmes are offered only in German.
We offer fourteen core programmes at the Master’s Level:
Business Administration:
- Master's Programme in Business Innovation (MBI)
- Master’s Programme in Marketing Management (MiMM)
- Master's Programme in Rechnungswesen und Unternehmensfinanzierung / Accounting and Corporate Finance (MACFin)
- Master's Programme in Unternehmensführung / General Management (MGM)
- Master's Programme in Banking and Finance (MBF)
- Master's Programme in Strategy and International Management (SIM)
Economics:
- Master’s Programme in Volkswirtschaftslehre / Economics (MEcon)
- Master's Programme in Quantitative Economics and Finance (MiQE/F)
International Affairs:
- Master's Programme in International Affairs and Governance (MIA)
Law:
- Master’s Programme in Rechtswissenschaft / Law (MLaw)
- Master’s Programme Rechtswissenschaft mit Wirtschaftswissenschaften / Law and Economics (MLE)
- Master's Programme in International Law (MIL)
Interdisciplinary Programme (Business Administration / Humanities & Social Sciences):
- Master’s Programme in Management, Organisation und Kultur / Management, Organization Studies and Cultural Theory (MOK)
Computer Science:
- Master’s Programme in Computer Science (MCS)
Each degree programme consists of core studies and contextual studies, which are also compulsory. Within the Contextual Studies, students are free to choose from the entire range of courses, irrespective of their particular Master’s programme. All Master's students can also participate in the mentoring programme.
Credits
90 ECTS credits are required for the M.A. HSG degree. The Master’s programme in Computer Science requires 120 ECTS credits for the M.Sc. HSG degree. ECTS stands for European Credit Transfer System. One credit point is equivalent to 30 hours of course work at the University of St.Gallen. This includes lectures, independent studies, semester projects and examinations.
